If your passport is mislaid, lost or perhaps stolen and you have booked to travel imminently, there is help available in the form of an Emergency Travel Document.
If you definitely think your passport is stolen you need to report it to the nearest Police Station, to get a Police Report and then you need to contact your nearest Embassy or Consulate of your Passport Country.
If you do not hold a UK Passport, check with the Embassy or Consulate of your Passport Country.
If your passport is lost or mislaid and you cannot find it in time for your travel arrangements you can apply for an Emergency Travel Document, subject to eligibility. The Emergency Travel Document is not a replacement emergency passport as it can only be used for a specific trip relating to your imminent travel plans and is subject to other restrictions detailed on their website. You should be aware that applying for an Emergency Travel Document is chargeable and WILL cancel your passport, so if you have not fully searched for your passport it may be a good idea to look again thoroughly, otherwise it will be cancelled once you proceed with the issue of an Emergency Travel Document and you will need to reapply for your passport again. By issuing an Emergency Travel Document it will immediately cancel your mislaid or stolen passport, so if you have other travel plans coming up you may want to ensure you definitely cannot find the passport before applying for the Emergency Travel Document.
