Sign up for cashback/loyalty/coupon store cards for your shopping and fuel*
Join an association that offers discounts on insurance, health, dental care and more*
Pay bills on time, set up a direct debt (Portugal is quick to Fine you or disconnect you)
Use low energy bulbs, unplug all non-essential electrical appliances, use timers or only use electrical appliances when it is at its cheapest time of day, change your electricity supplier * (you could get a quote to install solar/thermal panels to generate electricity/hot water from the sun*)
Use an established reputable foreign exchange company to convert and transfer money to Euros to your Portuguese Bank Account (they can often have better exchange rates, cheaper with little or no fees and faster compared to your High Street Bank saving you thousands depending how much you are transferring)*
Shop in upcycled/preloved/charity/goodwill shops, some items can be brand new with labels (donate as well for feelgood factor or upcyle your own items for new use)*
Join free website and social media groups to buy/sell unwanted items*
Pay an affordable monthly amount into a savings account for a year to buy Christmas, birthdays, holidays and treats if you don’t have a disposable income
